The Book of Mormon: Chapter Fourty: 3 Nephi 8:4–18

4And there began to be great doubtings and disputations among the people, notwithstanding so many signs had been given.

5And it came to pass in the thirty and fourth year, in the first month, on the fourth day of the month, there arose a great storm, such an one as never had been known in all the land.

6And there was also a great and terrible tempest; and there was terrible thunder, insomuch that it did shake the whole earth as if it was about to divide asunder.

We’re awaiting one of the most momentous occasions of all time, save the birth of Jesus Christ and his full life, ministry and death: that of His Second Coming. The Holy Bible foretells that He will come to the earth a second time, though in a different manner than when He first entered mortality. The first time He came as a man of sorrows who was acquainted with grief (Isa. 53:3), but the second time He will come as the mighty God (Isa. 9:6). He came the first time as the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). He will come the second time as King of kings and Lord of Lords (Rev. 17:14). He came the first time to atone for our sins; he will come the second time to welcome the righteous and to judge those sinners who have not repented.

Additionally we know from both The Bible and The Book of Mormon that the gospel will reach every clime–something we’re striving to assist in on this very site–and, at the same time, increased calamities will befall. Just as in The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon testifies to Jesus Christ’s Second Coming and the events that will precede it.

In the words of one LDS “Mormon” apostle (Mormons believe in the same organization as in the early Church of Jesus Christ, and that His Church and authority are once again on the earth!):

Since the earth has been in its present fallen or telestial state, it has been subject to earthquakes. These are part of the Lord’s plan; they come by his power and fulfil his purposes. By them he delivers his servants from perils, destroys the wicked, and leaves a sign that his hand has been in transcendent events (Helaman 12:7–17) (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 211–12).

If this is new to you, we invite you to explore this message further and to request a Free Copy of the Book of Mormon, and inquire in prayer to learn for yourself if what it speaks is truth. I testify it is a second witness of Jesus Christ and a divine record meant to aid each of us personally in our understanding of who we are and who we can ultimately become through His atoning sacrifice and Advocacy.

I remember when I came to know in a deeper way than ever before that Jesus Christ is the literal Light of the World. It was personal and it occurred in a non-descript room in a hotel where I was staying in London at the time. But I know it wasn’t just for me; I want to bear personal witness that the source of every inspiration, every power of good, every piece of truth, light, intellectual and spiritual, physical, electrical, solar, mental, is from Jesus Christ, and has Him to thank for its source, impact and blessing. This is beautifully and succinctly stated by an apostle, whose witness exceeds my own humble one, as follows:

When our Lord says, ‘I am the light, and the life, and the truth of the world’ (Ether 4:12), he is teaching that he is the source of life, light, and truth; that he sets the perfect example in their use; and that all men must look to him for these things (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 448).

If you don’t know the Savior as one who will light your path, who is assisting you in this very moment to find truth, please continue to seek Him.

5And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.

6And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.

God is consistent, perfect in the attributes of faithfulness, truth, knowledge. Were it not so, we couldn’t trust Him fully or lay hold of His promises for us personally. Enos knew He was forgiven. He received a witness from God. Each of us can similarly repent and know we’ve been forgiven, just as this ancient Book of Mormon prophet, as indicated below:

And lastly, but not less important to the exercise of faith in God, is the idea of the existence of the attribute of truth in him; for without the idea of the existence of this attribute the mind of man could have nothing upon which it could rest with certainty—all would be confusion and doubt.

But with the idea of the existence of this attribute in the Deity in the mind, all the teachings, instructions, promises, and blessings, become realities, and the mind is enabled to lay hold of them with certainty and confidence, believing that these things, and all that the Lord has said, shall be fulfilled in their time; and that all the cursings, denunciations, and judgments, pronounced upon the heads of the unrighteous, will also be executed in the due time of the Lord: and, by reason of the truth and veracity of him, the mind beholds its deliverance and salvation as being certain (Joseph Smith, Lectures on Faith 4:16).

The Book of Mormon: Chapter Thirty-Six: Helaman 8:15

15And as many as should look upon that serpent should live, even so as many as should look upon the Son of God with faith, having a contrite spirit, might live, even unto that life which is eternal.

The call to “look to God and live” is ours today as it been to those who lived anciently on this continent as recorded in The Book of Mormon, above. The same call, to “come and see” or come to Christ is written all over the New Testament. The invitation is open, extended, as Christ’s arms, without a closed-ended RSVP. In the words of one LDS (Latter-day Saint, “Mormon,”) apostle:

The burden of all the prophets, from Adam to our present prophet, has been to persuade men to look to God and live.

That men have not enjoyed peace, happiness, and continual progress is, therefore, not because God has failed to make known the way by which these blessings could be had. It is because men have refused to obey the revealed laws upon which these blessings are predicated.

Cain’s curse was brought on by his own willful rejection of the counsel of God. The antediluvians brought on the flood in which they perished by rejecting Noah, who taught and pleaded with them for one hundred twenty years. The Jaredites pursued their rebellious course to their utter destruction in defiance of the teachings and warnings of their prophets. Following the same course, the Nephites suffered great destruction at the time of Christ’s crucifixion.

All of this endless tragedy, carnage, and sorrow could have been avoided. All of these peoples could have existed in peace and prosperity had they been willing to look to God (Marion G. Romney, Look to God and Live, pp. 8–9).
